And this bench, in Canmore, actually reminds me of one of my favourite commissions of all time. It was so long ago now, and the situation was hilarious. I was set to complete this commission for a couple who had recently gotten engaged right at this spot. However, my partner Ian and I both got Covid and had to isolate in his bachelor apartment. I brought my paints with me an during the second week of isolation worked on this beautiful commission. It brought me so much joy! Even now as I am writing this, I know it will be stuck in there for the rest of the day now! Time with our loved ones whether it is interacting with a photo in the family group chat, or parking the van at a beautiful spot to rest for the night is such a precious time. It is increasingly difficult in our modern Canadian society to find moments in your week to \"let the light in\". These are moments to stop, breathe in some fresh air, and notice the world around us. Notice the tree that is starting to change before all the other trees on your street; notice the flowers that your neighbour Judy has tended to all year and how bright they are; notice the person who hands you your coffee in the drive-thru and how pleasant they always are. Having a moment to stare up at the sky and feel encouraged, or a day to swim in the lake or the ocean. All of these places and feelings seem to be associated with the colour blue.
