Sometimes Sunny - The Colours of Hope

When I was working on this exhibition, my mind was filled with an overwhelming sense of hopefulness. Hopefulness in the upcoming year ahead, a feeling of joy from being able to spend unhurried time with loved ones, and trying to decide what to fill my last sunny days with. These paintings are my commentary on said hopefulness - where we can find it: in the beautiful world around us, or through instruments and music - and an acknowledgement that these feelings of childlike summertime glee is not always the constant. There are so many seasons that do not feel hopeful, and increasingly it seems that heaviness persists. I used deep blues, purples and greens to produce high contrasts in each painting as an acknowledgement that the dark moments truly illuminate the brightness of a new day. My hope is that through the color and light in these works you are uplifted and that they act as a reminder to notice each little moment when it is “sometimes sunny” - when you get to glimpse hope peaking in.
