Meet "Jack" who is the first in the series of Epilepsy Portraits, which has been a wonderful ongoing project with the Edmonton Epilepsy Association, and Lauren Dary (our amazing photographer). I first proposed this project to the EEA in 2024, and it has been a wonderful year of interviewing participants, photographing them, and then painting their portraits.
The portraits themselves are meant to be vibrant, joyful and evoke an overall feeling of triumph. Living with a chronic illness at best is a daily struggle, and epilepsy, in particular, is an invisible illness. If you looked at these portraits, you would never know the person is living with epilepsy, and this is truly why I felt like we needed to do the project.
Please join me this March, as it is epilepsy awareness month, and learn about these amazing humans. Enjoy reading more about Jack in the following slides - I hope you are inspired by his story as much as I am, and celebrate him with me!
